One of those two stops was at the Golden Spike National Monument. This is where the transcontinental railroad was completed in 1869. They had a small museum and two steam engines, replicas of the two that were present at the completion. We arrived just in time to see them demonstrate one of the engines. Here are a few photos of our day.

Watching the train demonstration
Everyone was excited to see Lori!
Even Annaleigh went to her willingly, which if you know
Annaleigh, you know, is unusual.
Gas prices here are a bit better than home!
train fanatic that i am, this looks awesome. how was the museum? worth stopping?
ReplyDeleteI would say so, but it is a little bit out of the way. They do have some other artifacts related to the construction of the transcontinental railroad than just a replica of the golden spike (the original is at Stanford university). Also, the operational replicas of the two engines that met there to finish the railway were fun to see.
