Well, the drive to Moab was through mountainous areas that had large inclines and declines in elevation. Needless to say, pulling a travel trailer in those conditions did not enable us to travel at top speed. Also, the children seemed especially 'squirrely,' probably from a combination of late nights and staying in one place without a lot of travel for a few days. We finally arrived in Moab a bit after 6. That's when things got interesting.
We were under the naive assumption that since it was a Sunday night, we did not need to make reservations and could just find a campground there once we arrived. The first place we tried was the campground at Arches State Park. It was full. Ok, we thought, we'll just head into Moab (about 2 miles away) and find one. We checked another place. It was full. We went through Moab and checked a place on the other end of town. It was also full. Oh no, we thought.
At that point, we pulled over, got the computer linked up, and started checking out hotels and resorts. After a couple of calls that went to answering machines, Keri got a hold of the Best Western. She asked if they had a room and they said the only one they had left was a large suite with King and 2 Queen beds. It normally went for $250+ a night, but since that was all they could offer, they gave us a deep discount. Keri said, "I think we'll take it." They, not knowing the size of our party, probably left some money on the table. God provided amazingly in spite of our lack of preparation/knowledge.
After getting some clothes and other items together, we stepped into our fabulous suite, dropped our things off, and went to get some dinner. We found an excellent Mexican place in town, had a great dinner, went back and got the kids into bed (Annie had a hard time at first since we left her 'peapod' in the tent trailer and had to use a pack and play from the hotel). Now, it is quiet and peaceful. Keri has had a nice shower, and we'll probably call it a night soon. We'll have to hit Arches tomorrow before heading off to camp in the Rockies, and hopefully, we won't have quite as eventful a day as today.
Our home for the night

It seems a bit early for everything to be so full, but we drove all the way home from Oklahoma City one time when we couldn't find ANY hotel from Colorado through Montana. By then, it was morning, and we just kept going. Glad you found a great suite. xoxoxoxo
