A long travel day

We are finding blogging to be a bit challenging.  The times that are most convenient for us to work on it are the times that we have no internet access (we have wireless internet access with us, we just can’t access it in remote areas ).  Then when we have internet access, life gets crazy and we don’t have time to blog.

So, I am working on this post off-line while we are driving to Sterling, Colorado, where will spend the night at my Uncle Loren and Aunt Delma’s home.
The past 24 hours have been the most challenging of our trip so far.

  • Virginia was heard to say:  “I don’t like stopping one night and then driving and then stopping one night and then driving!”

  • Ron promised the girls Burger King only to find that the one he remembered seeing was 30 miles round trip out of our way with no other fast food in sight for over an hour.  We had crackers and lunch meat instead.  Let’s just say it didn’t go over very well.

  • No one took a nap during rest time, and if they did fall asleep they were quickly awakened by someone else that was fussing and resisting their nap.

  • We drove through absolutely amazing scenery in the Rocky Mountains, highly anticipating our night’s stay at a mountain campground only to arrive to this:

The campground had over 100 spaces and as far as we could tell three people were actually camping there.  It appeared that a forest fire had come through the area and it was just coming back to life.  It wasn't exactly what we had been anticipating!
  • So, by popular vote, we left that campground and arrived at a KOA outside of Denver at 10:00 at night.
  • On our way to the KOA, it was discovered that someone had stopped on our toiletries bag, causing the children's shampoo to leak over everything.
  • I awoke with a stiff neck.
  • Our campground was pretty but the wind was blowing like crazy and it was quite challenging to eat, clean up and get ready to head into Denver.
So, we anticipate that things can only get better from here, right?  And I do have to say again that, in the midst of it all, the scenery through the rockies was incredible!
Earlier today we did end up having a picnic lunch in Denver at a park where the girls were able to play.  My aunt Pat was able to meet us at the park and we had a nice visit with her.
