We are off! After a year of dreaming and planning, researching and making reservations, we are finally heading out for a month long vacation across the United States. We are hunkered down in our Ford E350 12 passenger van pulling a Fleetwood Utah tent trailer that sleeps 9. Outside it is cold and grey, typical drizzly Seattle weather. Preparing for a month long vacation is no easy feat (I could have used another day, I think!) but we left the house a few minutes after 9:00 a.m. today, June 9th, 2011. I’m sure before evening, we will realize the items that we have forgotten but I figure we can always purchase things on the way (Yes, dad, I remembered my toothbrush!). Our goal today is to get somewhere near the Oregon/Idaho border making a good dent in our drive to our first stop, Salt Lake City.
This blog is going to be a record of our thoughts and progress along the way. Ron and I, Michaela and Rebekah will contribute from time to time giving you a picture of the trip through varying perspectives.
Before it is over, we will have driven over 5000 miles. If all goes as planned, we will return home on the 3rd of July, just in time to celebrate Independence Day. Ron returns to work on July 6th.
Here is the latest route map that we had saved. There are already some slight changes to it, but I’m sure before we are home, there will be more.
By the way, just so we don’t paint too rosy of a picture, our children are already fighting over toys in the back seat. J
